  2. Lots of Extra Privileges Those who preferred to work for the government are entitled to receive extra bonuses, such as, but not limited to, free medical service for the family including parents, spouse or children, pension after 30 years of service, 60% of final salary, and 25 days of annual leave.promote-drugs-fb
  3. The Longer the service, the better! In 2010, the government of Malaysia appealed a time-based promotion to medical doctors. It states that the longer the service years spent, the higher the amount of wages paid. The government uses this as a tactic to keep medical doctors from pursuing private practice. As long as they comply with their scope of practice and no disciplinary actions are filed against them, the increase in wage will be given according to the number of service years.

Here’s a more detailed rundown:

After two years of Housemanship, physician’s rate increases to UD44 from a basic of UD41. Thus, they will be paid an additional MYR 1,000 or USD 245.  If you decided to stay for another 3 years, you would then be promoted to a UD4 increase from 44 to 48. Therefore, another MYR 1,000 is added to your bank account.   As what you observed, for every additional 3-4 years of service, a medical doctor receives a UD4 increase.  No doubt that the salaries if the doctors have improved through the years. But unfortunately, the cost of living continues to rise as well tremendously.  Meanwhile, House officers in Malaysia has a starting salary of MYR 2,600 or USD 639 plus a total pf MYR 1,500 or USD 369 for the other allowances. But aside from the monthly fixed rate they have been receiving, they also have on-call duties which gain them additional MYR 600 or USD 147 as an allowance. But due to some government taxes responsibilities, the remaining salary they take home is MYR 3,900 or USD 959 after an 11% tax deduction.

On the other hand, U54’s beginning wage makes MYR 7,110 or USD 1,749 with a non-tax total of MYR 9,860 or USD 2,425 as allowances. Also, a specialist in a particular clinical field receives MYR 2,800 or USD 688 as compensation.  Lastly, a Medical Officer with a total of 12 years of service gets around MYR 8,200 or USD 2,017 per month.

The services that the doctors in Malaysia provide are rewarded with more than decent monthly wages and various perks and benefits from the government, and they deserve it. They do carry big responsibilities. Plus, in order to be able to practice, they had to get through years of difficult studying. If the world of curing diseases and giving service to others interest you, you should persevere through the hardships of medical school. Be assured, hard works indeed pay off.
